Project Overview
BAE Systems is an international Defence and security company who works closely with the Australian Defence Force and security companies through-life support, security, logistics and systems integration. They have operated in Australia for more than 60 years and employ over 7,500 personnel nationally.
The existing carpark at BAE System Head Office in Adelaide’s northern suburbs was proving insufficient for their current needs. Therefore, BAE engaged Intract Australia via project managers Indigenous Defence & Infrastructure Consortium, to design and construct additional carparks.
Scope of Work
Design and construct project for the upgrade of a carpark facility comprising of 65 carpark sites at the BAE Systems Edinburgh office. Greenhill was engaged as the main consultant for the carpark design, Pavement Asset Services for the pavement design, Enerven for the carpark lighting design with FMG Engineering providing geotechnical services. Works included tree removal, 775m³ of earthworks, drainage upgrade with 10m of stormwater reinforced concrete pipe and two pits, 210m of concrete kerbing, 1,550m² of new granular pavement and asphalting, new solar carpark lighting, line-marking and bollards installation.
Additional works included the removal of buried concrete footings and the construction of an additional concrete footpath. Temporary fencing was in place during works to ensure the site was separate from the adjacent existing and operational carpark.
To minimise disturbance to the ground and to achieve a high green energy rating, solar lighting was considered during the design phase and was successfully implemented into the lighting infrastructure.
Workforce peaked at 20 personnel of which four were Indigenous achieving a 29% Indigenous Participation rate for the project. Plant and equipment included 8t and 14t excavators, 140M grader, 10t smooth drum and padfoot rollers, service truck, water truck and semi-tippers for materials supply. All subcontracted works were sourced locally and included asphalting, kerbing, lighting, geotechnical, design, fencing and line marking works.
