On Thursday 11th July, the Intract Australia and McMahon Services team in Dry Creek, held the second annual NAIDOC in-house event, which offered both office staff and on-site personnel a chance to come together to celebrate and participate in the NAIDOC festivities and pay tribute to the culture and history of Indigenous Australians.
This years’ theme VOICE. TREATY. TRUTH. invites you to walk with us in a movement of the Australian people for a better future. For generations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples have sought recognition of our unique place in Australian history and society today as the oldest continuing culture on the planet.
Aboriginal elder Aunty Georgina Williams opened the event with a traditional Welcome to Country, followed by John Briggs and Andrew McMahon, who spoke about the importance of NAIDOC Week and the significance the week has to Indigenous Australians.
Attendees were treated to a delicious native BBQ lunch, catered by Tauondi College, an independent Australian Aboriginal controlled and managed post-secondary college.
By hosting events like this, we hope to open the conversation in our own communities, celebrate and learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and contribute to a reconciled Australia.
